P6100 TRIPLE Kit Microphones for Grand Piano

The P6100 TRIPLE microphone kit for grand piano is designed for studio and live productions.
The easy and reproducible mounting ensures that you carry your own sound and sound shaping along any studio and any venue for any grand piano.

Use in Studios:
The microphone kit excels in quick setup after arrival for studio rehearsal and initial recordings.
Likewise it is quickly removed.
For recordings it is easily complemented with large ribbon microphones for final take.

Use in Live Recording and Live Amplification:
The unique pickup approach inside the grand piano enables live performances with high bleed reduction when the lid is closed. This   enables application in loud performance with mixing of classical piano with big orchestras in jazz, rock and pop.
The bleed reduction is however sufficient with open lid in chamber performances without close neighbours.

• The inside mounting of multiple REMIC microphones ensures that the sound is picked up with the fastest phase synchronisation available in the industry.
• The advantage of 3 microphones is the ability to capture in proximity to the wide spread of the frequency spectrum in a very large instrument.
• The efficient pickup character of the microphones provides an inherent bleed suppression.
• Bleed reduction from loud adjacent instruments is achieved when using the microphones with closed lid on the piano.
• The REMIC Piano Microphones feature fast magnetic attachment inside the piano on the metal frame (harp).
• The direct contact to the metal will not produce any rattle or disturbing noise.
• Balanced output to XLR Connector, 48V Phantom Power required

Summary of mounting suggestions for sound shaping:

Warm and Present Sound

If you like a warm and present sound, we suggest a position as illustrated below.

 

 

Super Wide Sound

If you like a super wide sound, try the position below. In order to stabilize the sound in the center of the image, you should place the third microphone in the center of the stereo image.

 

Sound with Hard Attack

If you like a sound with hard attack, you could place the microphone as shown on the photo below. Also here, you should use three microphones to cover all areas of the piano. It might be necessary to move the third microphone a little bit to find the best position for the best sound.

 

 

For all of the above positions, we strongly recommend to pan the two main microphone hard left-right. Otherwise, you will experience strange effects in the sound spectrum.
